This conference, jointly organised by LSE’s Hayek Programme and the University of Bologna, examines the intersection of political economy, culture, and narratives from a historical perspective.
The study of culture has become a central area of inquiry in political economy and economic history, offering valuable insights into the evolution of political institutions and economic systems. More recently, the analysis of narratives has opened new avenues for understanding the mechanisms that drive policy change and long-run economic transformation.
This conference brings together research on political economy, culture, and narratives with a focus on historical processes. Emphasising historical perspectives enables a deeper exploration of long-term trends and dynamics, highlighting how narratives and cultural values both shape and are shaped by political and economic developments.
This includes "Endogenous Kinship Institutions" presented by Carmine Guerriero and "Primordial Legal Origins" by Giacomo Benati.
